Mystic Sky

Ava, an air elemental witch and meteorologist in Vermont, with her spice witch bestie, bear shifter boyfriend, and her snowshoe hare familiar...

I never thought losing my job as Burlington, Vermont’s most accurate meteorologist and finding out I have air elemental powers would lead to murder, but here I am, conjuring miniature tornadoes in the park with my friend’s aunt while my familiar, Clove—my snowshoe hare with severe separation anxiety issues—digs everything out of my purse, including my wallet, to come with me wherever I go.

At least my spice witch roommate keeps our apartment smelling like cinnamon and chocolate, even if her involvement in the local catering scene has pulled me into a deadly mystery involving back-stabbing personal chefs and their issues over fresh produce. Between mastering my emotional-induced weather outbursts and falling for Theo, the grumpy black bear shifter who keeps bringing scones and other treats to my house, I'm barely keeping it together.

But when a body turns up at in our kitchen during a party announcing our new catering business, with police accusing me of murder by association, I know I need to solve this case fast—before I become the next victim in Burlington’s supernatural culinary underworld.

A Witch in the Wind

Storms I Can Handle. Murder? That's Another Matter.

I am Ava, and I like things a certain way — organized, precise, and preferably free of other people's chaos. As a former meteorologist with a quiet command over air itself, I traded weather charts for spreadsheets at my roommate Harper's catering firm. It's a sensible arrangement. Harper conjures miracles with spice magic, I balance the books, Clove — my snowshoe hare familiar — judges everyone silently, and Theo, our hulking, perpetually sauce-splattered black bear of a business partner, makes my carefully ordered nerves feel anything but calm.

When a former colleague hires us to cater a party at my old meteorology office in Burlington, Vermont, I expect awkward small talk and a flawless charcuterie spread. Instead, the most celebrated meteorologist in New England turns up dead before the appetizers are cleared. Now the winds are whispering things they shouldn't know, Clove won't stop thumping at the suspects, and Theo — sauce on his collar as always — is looking at me like I'm the only storm worth chasing. Solving a murder wasn't on the invoice, but someone has to do it right.
